Shockwave Therapy for Plantar Fasciitis in South Miami: Cost and What to Expect

Heel pain that won't go away?

Plantar fasciitis, sometimes described as plantar heel pain, can make the first steps out of bed or standing after sitting especially uncomfortable. Many cases improve with time and conservative care, but ongoing pain can interfere with work, exercise, and daily activities.

At Integrative Pain Institute in South Miami, shockwave therapy is one of the non-surgical services available for selected patients with persistent heel pain. Whether it is appropriate depends on the diagnosis, previous treatments, and medical history.

What is shockwave therapy?

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) sends acoustic pressure waves through the skin to a targeted tissue area. It does not require an incision. Devices and treatment settings differ, and evidence from one protocol does not automatically apply to every machine or patient.

Some studies report improvements in pain and function for certain patients with chronic plantar fasciitis. Results are variable, studies use different protocols, and shockwave therapy is not a guaranteed cure.

When is it usually considered?

A clinician may discuss shockwave therapy when heel pain has persisted despite an appropriate trial of measures such as:

  • Activity changes and temporary reduction in aggravating exercise
  • Plantar fascia and calf stretching
  • Supportive footwear or orthoses where appropriate
  • Physical therapy or a structured rehabilitation program

An evaluation is important because nerve problems, stress injuries, fat-pad disorders, and other conditions can also cause heel pain.

What happens during a visit?

Your clinician reviews symptoms and examines the painful area before determining whether shockwave is a reasonable option. Treatment generally involves placing a handheld applicator against the skin with coupling gel. Some discomfort during the session is possible. The number of visits depends on the device protocol and your response.

Temporary soreness, redness, or bruising can occur. Certain health conditions or medications may make treatment inappropriate; tell your clinician about pregnancy, bleeding disorders, medications, and any recent injuries.

What does shockwave therapy cost in South Miami?

Our currently listed cash price for a shockwave therapy session is $115. The number of visits, any additional evaluation costs, and whether coverage is available should be confirmed before treatment. See our current pricing for the latest details.

Can shockwave replace stretching or other treatment?

Usually, it is better viewed as one possible component of care rather than a substitute for diagnosis, exercise-based rehabilitation, or other indicated treatments. Ask what improvements would count as meaningful and when your treatment plan should be reassessed.
